The fringe is evidence of the exquisite architecture of your rug. All hand-knotted Oriental rugs are woven on a warp and weft base that forms its foundation. When the weaving process is complete, this foundation is cut from the loom and the excess strands are tied and finished – creating the fringe, or ‘tassel’ as it is commonly known.
When the fringe begins to fray, often because of a slipped stopping stitch that is used to hold it in place, the weft and warp can also come loose and start to erode the pile of the rug. It is very important to halt this process. Similar in nature to the structural repair of a building, in order for the pile of a rug to be maintained, it must have a secure foundation.
Fraying ends and fringes need to be attended to quickly. It is much easier to apply a new stopping stitch to a fraying tassel (identical to what would originally been used to finish the rug or carpet) than it is to rebuild and re-weave sections of the rug which have been allowed to come apart.

Positioning your area rug in a bright and sunlit room will cause fading. However, using blinds or drapes to block direct sunlight will prevent some sun damage. Another option to reduce uneven wear and fading is to rotate your area rug annually.

If I’m not using my rug, how should I store it
Persian rugs are best stored rolled up. If Persian rugs are folded, they may become creased, pleated, or otherwise deformed.
How do I treat and remove stains?
It depends on the type of stain. If the rug gets wet or spilt upon, use a white cloth to blot out and absorb excess water. Roll up the rug with the cloth inside and squeeze the water from the fiber. Repeat this process as necessary in order to remove excess water, taking the backside of the rug into account. Should any billowing or molding occur, contact us for professional cleaning. Stains from drinks such as coffee, beer, or soda can be treated by dabbing the area with room-temperature water and a cloth. Again, if any residue remains, let us take care of it!
How do I prevent mite and insect damage?
Gently vacuum your rug once a week to remove dust, which can attract small insects. Remember to vacuum the backside of the rug as well.Â
How long will my rug last?
One aspect of handmade Persian rugs that many collectors and enthusiasts enjoy is their general hardiness. With hundreds of knots per square inch, the fabric fibers are tightly wound and rarely unravel. Depending on how much foot traffic the rug encounters, the quality of the rug and the care it receives, handmade Persian rugs can last well over a hundred years. If the rug experiences foot traffic, it is preferable that guests not wear hard shoes, and especially not high heels, which can damage the rug’s knots and fibers. Additionally, try to keep your rug out of direct sunlight, which can cause fading and even deterioration of the material. If your rug is in direct sunlight, be sure to rotate the rug frequently, at least once a month.
How do you clean your clients’ rugs?
Firstly, all of our rugs are delicately hand washed in order preserve the integrity of the natural dyes and fabrics in them. Because every rug is unique, our cleaning routine varies, but generally we first inspect the rug to determine rug damage, if any. Then, we’ll remove any dry particles or dirt, using a variety of traditional techniques. Before using any cleaning agent, we test the color strength, and use a special shampoo and/or special cleaning solution. After this, the rugs are washed and rinsed on both sides, and left to dry naturally.
What kind of rug repairs are done?

My rug is damaged by smoke, what should I do?

Persian rugs are best stored rolled up. If Persian rugs are folded, they may become creased, pleated, or otherwise deformed.
How do I treat and remove stains?
It depends on the type of stain. If the rug gets wet or spilt upon, use a white cloth to blot out and absorb excess water. Roll up the rug with the cloth inside and squeeze the water from the fiber. Repeat this process as necessary in order to remove excess water, taking the backside of the rug into account. Should any billowing or molding occur, contact us for professional cleaning. Stains from drinks such as coffee, beer, or soda can be treated by dabbing the area with room-temperature water and a cloth. Again, if any residue remains, let us take care of it!
How do I prevent mite and insect damage?
Gently vacuum your rug once a week to remove dust, which can attract small insects. Remember to vacuum the backside of the rug as well.Â
How long will my rug last?
One aspect of handmade Persian rugs that many collectors and enthusiasts enjoy is their general hardiness. With hundreds of knots per square inch, the fabric fibers are tightly wound and rarely unravel. Depending on how much foot traffic the rug encounters, the quality of the rug and the care it receives, handmade Persian rugs can last well over a hundred years. If the rug experiences foot traffic, it is preferable that guests not wear hard shoes, and especially not high heels, which can damage the rug’s knots and fibers. Additionally, try to keep your rug out of direct sunlight, which can cause fading and even deterioration of the material. If your rug is in direct sunlight, be sure to rotate the rug frequently, at least once a month.
How do you clean your clients’ rugs?

After this, the rugs are washed and rinsed on both sides, and left to dry naturally.

My rug is damaged by smoke, what should I do?
