How Long Will It Take To Clean My Carpets?
On average, it will take approximately 25 minutes per room. This time can vary greatly depending on the amount of furniture to be moved, how soiled the carpet is, and any necessary spot removal treatments.

Can You Treat Pet Stains And Odor?
Yes. Accidents from pets, especially pet urine, can wreak havoc on the carpet. The alkaline salts in pet urine absorb moisture out of the air and the pet urine never completely dries. It becomes a feeding ground for bacteria, which causes odour, staining and discolouration. Minor conditions can be handled with a combination of germicidal and enzyme surface treatments. Major conditions require pad replacement and floor treatment in addition to treating and cleaning the carpet.

Can You Guarantee You Will Get All The Stains Out Of My Carpet?
Although we’d like to say yes, the answer is no. Many factors are involved in whether a particular stain can be removed. A few of these factors are the nature of the stain, the type of carpet fibre, how long the stain has been there and what, if anything, was used previously to get the stain out. Do I Need To Vacuum Before The Team Arrives?
A light vacuuming in the traffic areas is recommended but not required.  If needed, the crew can pre-vacuum the area to be cleaned.  Also, the equipment is vacuuming the entire time we are cleaning.

What Do I Need To Do To Get Ready To Have My Carpets Cleaned?
Our technicians are trained to move your furniture and return it to its rightful place. We do ask that you remove items from your furniture like electronics, plants, lamps and knickknacks. We will move most furniture that you request at no additional cost. The exceptions are large items, including pianos, china cabinets, waterbeds, pool tables and dressers with mirrors.

Does My Carpet Get Dirtier, Quicker After I Clean It?
No. If your professional carpet cleaner does their job correctly, this is not true. You cannot clean a carpet too often; not getting your carpet cleaned is much worse. Periodic cleaning will extend the life of your carpet while helping to keep your home healthier.

How Often Should I Have My Carpets Cleaned?
This answer varies depending on many factors such as allergies, children, pets and whether the carpet gets heavy use or light use. Dirt is like sandpaper. It damages your carpet. The more often you have your carpets cleaned, the longer they will last. The experts and most carpet manufacturers recommend that you have your carpet professionally cleaned every 6 to 12 months, depending on your lifestyle.

What Method Of Cleaning Do We Use?
Kairos Upholstery uses the “professional water extraction” method of cleaning. This is washing and rinsing of the carpet. We use only non-toxic cleaning agents that are safe for your home. Our carpet cleaning machines have powerful motors for deeper cleaning.

What Can I Expect When The Cleaners Come?

• Conduct a pre-inspection of the rooms and/or items to be cleaned noting any heavily soiled areas.
• Discuss the process with you and answer any questions you may have.
• Move furniture in the rooms (except very large items)
• Pre-treat any areas of concern to ensure the most thorough cleaning.
• Clean using our hot water extraction method or the method deemed most appropriate.
• Apply deodorizer or protector, and groom the carpet.
• Return your furniture to its original location, placing protective pads underneath.

What Furniture Would Be Expected To Be Moved When I Have My Carpets Cleaned?
Kairos Upholstery will include furniture moving for the following items: sofas and lounge suites, tables and chairs, beds on wheels and light furniture. We don’t move heavy furniture that can easily break. It is always best to remove items from an area that is not being cleaned before we arrive.

What is Kairos Upholstery’s service area?
We provide our services throughout Gauteng. If you are more than 30 kilometres from Randburg, we may add a travelling fee to your quote.

What cleaning method do you use?
Kairos Upholstery uses hot water extraction also known as steam cleaning. We use industrial carpet cleaning machines. These machines use a combination of hot water, high pressure, and a powerful vacuum to remove dirt & harmful pollutants from your carpet. Then we deodorize to make your carpet fresh and clean. Cleaning is done by fully trained professionals. Most manufacturer’s warranties required this method of cleaning to keep in good standing.

How long will it take my carpet to dry?
The carpet usually takes between 4–12 hours to dry. When we leave, your carpets will be slightly damp to the touch. Effects on drying time include weather, relative humidity levels and type and condition of the carpet. On a wet or cold day, it will take longer to dry.

To decrease drying time, keep the temperature at a comfortable level, use a fan and on a nice day opening up the house; leaving your house closed up will extend drying time.

Will carpet cleaning remove fleas from my carpet?
No, carpet cleaning is a good secondary measure after professional extermination of pests (i.e. fleas, bed bugs, roaches, etc.). We suggest having your home bombed and treated both before having your carpets steam cleaned.  The steam from the hot water extraction will kill the eggs, but the living fleas will get away, and then return if you do not have pest control professionals treat the house.

How soon can I walk on the carpeted floors after they have been cleaned?
You can walk on your carpet almost immediately after we leave as long as you are wearing some sort of clean house shoes. Heavy foot traffic is suggested to be avoided until your carpets are dry. The bottom of your feet could be clean, so caution is needed when transitioning from damp carpet areas to any other surface.

What do I need to do before getting them cleaned?
Generally, you should pick up loose items off the floor.  Toys, books and breakables should be put away. Relocate any small pieces of furniture such as dining room chairs, magazine racks, etc from the areas to be cleaned before we arrive.

When vacuuming no longer removes all of the soil, or you have not been able to remove spots following the recommended carpet care and cleaning procedures, it’s time to have your carpet cleaned by a trained and qualified professional cleaner. Get your carpet cleaned every 3 to 12 months on average. This can vary depending on how many adults, children and pets live in your home. We recommend you have your high traffic areas cleaned every 6 months.

Why is the agitation with hot water extraction the method most carpet makers recommend?
To get anything truly clean, you need to use water to flush out the cleaning agents and dirt. Hot water extraction is the method that uses a flushing process to remove dirt. (Imagine washing your clothes and not rinsing them. That’s what happens to carpet cleaned without the hot water extraction method.)

I’ve heard water can ruin carpets. Is that true?
No. What harms carpet is poor quality machinery that doesn’t remove enough of the water to allow the carpet to go through the drying process properly.
